What is the standard GHz for a 2002 desktop?
I have a Dell Windows XP desktop that I want to upgrade. I am pretty sure that I am not at the standards so I want to know the standard RAM and Ghz for a computer of this type. Thanks.
From 2002, we still had Pentium 4's. The maximum clock speed of a Pentium 4 (with HyperThreading Tech) was - I think - 3.2 GHz. However, currently we have Dual/Quad cores, which range from 1.5GHz - 3.2 GHz.
You are limited to the 'socket' type of the processor. Pentium 4's use the s478 package, while the current processors use the LGA775 package. This refers to the number of connectors/pins on the actual CPU chip. So, as per your 2002 computer, you have a motherboard with a s478 socket type, and are limited to a Pentium 4 s478 (VERY rare to obtain these days), unless you decide to upgrade the entire package.
