Can I install Windows XP on a SATA HDD?
Last year I purchased an HP Compaq laptop with Windows XP. The manual said that I could install on it Windows Vista. I did. Now I want to return to XP again, but I discovered that my HDD has been set to SATA. I tried Nlite and put the 'SATA-Seeing' drive for XP and I burned it to a CD. But my problem persists-every time I boot, it gives me an error that setup did not detect any Hard Disk Drive. I bought another XP PRO CD, USELESS! HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP?????????
The first thing to do is to see if your SATA disk appears in your bios. If your M/B has a SATA connection then it is built for it and should read a SATA disk with no problem. If it appears in the Bios try deleting the partition, reformatting it, then installing windows xp. Make sure that the version that you are installing is service pack 2 or 3 because I don't think sp1 supports SATA (but I could be wrong on this). You have given very little information. If you want technical assistance you have to let us know the technical details of how everything is connected, what your procedures were, and the details on how it failed.
