Why are some of my windows icons missing?
Sometime a while back, a lot of the icons in my Start menu went missing. The actual programs work fine when I select them, the icons have just been replaced with the generic application icon. Particularly, all the MS Office program icons are gone, along with iTunes. Many others are just fine. It seems like only applications in "All Users" are affected, and not my personal account, but many applications in "All Users" have their icons.
What would cause this and how can I fix them without manually recreating all the shortcuts?
I'm using Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
This behavior occurs if the Show Desktop Icons feature is turned off.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, turn on the Show Desktop Icons feature:
1. Right-click the desktop.
2. Point to Arrange Icons By.
3. Click Show Desktop Icons.
