Windows Media Player

How to keep windows media player appearance when upgrading?
Recently, I had installed Windows XP operating system on a com. It has windows media player version 9 on it. I found out it was more interesting and easy to use compare to windows media player 10 or 11. But windows media player 9 has less function and it need an upgrade to use windows media player 10 or 11 function. Is there any way I can upgrade but still keeping windows media player 9 appearance? Or I need to download additional codecs or plug ins to use windows media player 10 or 11 functions? Could anyone help me here?
Hi, I don't know if you can make wmp11 look exactly like wmp9, but wmp11 is customisable and skinnable. Here is microsoft's wmp home for skins and stuff,

As for codecs, I do not recommend the k-lite codec pack. Maybe not at first but eventually the k-lite codec pack will break your system because not everything it installs is compatible. K-lite pack has screwed up my system 3 times now. Here is the codec pack that I recommend,
http://www.shark007.net/
Go to the above link and choose the shark007 codec pack for whichever version of windows you may have, the vista pack is compatible with windows xp. You have to go to the bottom of the page for the download link which will take you to majorgeeks website for the download. You have to uninstall any previous codec packs before installing this one. Once you've installed it, open the shark007 settings application options window and go under help and click on (windows filetype associations). This will make windows media player the default for all files such as flv, avi, mkv, just about all types. You can also turn those annoying ffdshow video, audio, and haali media splitter icons off in the shark007 settings application window under the misk tab.
Heres some more tips If you go to uninstall the shark007 pack don't use the regular windows uninstaller in control panel. Use the shark007 application settings options window under the help tab that says uninstall. If after installing the shark007 pack and you still can't play dvd's go back into the shark options window and under the first tab config click on ffdshow video config and under codecs find the mpeg2 option which will be disabled and select either libavcodec or libmpeg2 and click decode dvd at the bottom and apply then ok and close it out. You may want to try shark007's updated versions of media player classic or mpc home cinema under the shark007 tools section of the site which are close to the bottom of the page.
Do not believe the crap about shark007 having a virus. It is a false positive in which the owner has already submitted the major antivirus companies for review. This pack is more simple than it seems to install. Go here for any further help with the shark007 pack,

If you don't want to go that route I recommend you try these players instead,
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ This is the official site of the vlc media player by videolan. It is a simple player that plays nearly any audio or video file there is without the need for one external codec whatsoever. The codecs are all built into vlc. It even plays corrupt and broken videos and stuff that you are still downloading. It's a free player also.
http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_Introduction.html The official site of gom player. It's a simple media player that plays most videos without the need for extra codecs. It plays even more formats with a codec pack and can use the shark007 pack. It is also free,
http://download.pandora.tv/?mode=kmp&tab=1 This is the official site of "the kmplayer". There are two different kmplayers one being the front for mplayer. This is the one thats not affiliated with mplayer this one is made by koreans and is indepenent. It is the best media player i've came across once I change all the options to my liking. It can support winamp, realplayer, and quicktime plugins. It's skinnable. Plays most any file. This player may not be for beginners but once you've got all the options to your liking its awesome. It is the most customizable player i've seen.
The kmplayer above has only one flaw i've seen. That is if you uninstall it, it will leave the files associated to the kmplayer after its gone. Here is how to fix that. Before you uninstall it, open it up right click then go to options then preferences, and click on it. Then go to association/capture and then click the none tab and click apply to system. Then you can uninstall it and it wont leave file associations.

http://mulder.dummwiedeutsch.de/home/?page=projects This is the infamous mplayer for windows version, got this link from the official mplayer site http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/news.html
I really don't know as much about the infamous mplayer but I know its popular.
I recommend you try the shark007 pack and customise your wmp11 since that was your question.
I appologise for how long this answer is and I hope this helps you out.
