I just received my HP upgrade kit for Windows 7 and I was wondering if it would wipe out my files?
If I upgrade, do you know if it will wipe out programs like Norton Anti Virus Protection or other things like that. It says that my stuff will not be overwritten but I wanted to know for sure. Thanks
Download windows 7 update adviser first it will identify any programs that you have that are not compatible with windows 7. The HP upgrade didn't mess with any of my programs or files except for some "Wild Tangent" bloat ware crap that came on it. I had to delete this program as per the update adviser, but it did say that it could be re-loaded after the upgrade. (didn't use it and didn't want it anyway). My Norton, games, web cam and printer came through the upgrade fine. If you have a bunch of pics and or music files you may want to do a back up "just in case". If you don't already have a set of vista recovery discs then make them before the upgrade as you will need them in the future in the event of having to do a full system recovery on your machine. You can't do a recovery with the upgrade. You have to recover to vista and then do the upgrade to windows 7 again.
