Computer Issues any computer geeks to help me?
I have an older HP computer running an OS of Windows XP Professional on a network domain. I went on the computer in the Admin account and set internet content restricted sites. When i log into the semi admin account (public) it allows access to the sites i just blocked under Admin account however, when in the admin account it blocks the sites I wanted it to. What would cause this problem and how can I fix it?
You could also block sites with the hosts file (%SystemRoot%system32driversetchosts). Place an entry for each domain you want to block on a separate line as follows;
127.0.0.1 www.domain1.com
127.0.0.1 www.domain2.com
127.0.0.1 www.domain3.com
The hosts file is set as read only, so unset that before editing, then set it back when your done.
The 127.0.0.1 IP address is a loopback to the local box, so the user will be redirected to the default web site on that system (if one exists), otherwise they'll get an error page of sorts. You can also specify other IP address, such as 207.46.19.190 (microsoft.com)
