Can I swap between Vista and XP by using an installation disc?
I have Vista and I don't dislike it as much as everyone else, but it DOES still encounter compatibility problems that are irritating.
My friend has an XP disc, apparently for installation, and there are some for Vista as well. My questions:
1: If I used this disc, or got a fresh XP operating system disc, can I use it on my laptop to change it from Vista to XP?
2: Would I have to get rid / delete Vista first and if so, how?
3: Could I do the same thing with a Vista disc if I wanted it back?
4: Will doing any of this completely wipe my system of what's stored on it beyond the OS such as installed games and desktop items?
I have no interest in damaging my laptop, which is what I'd be doing this on. So please, answer all questions so I know what I'm in for. Thanks for any help!
1. It depends, had he used it already? If he has, then the liscense will be invalid and you will not be able to update XP. If he has not, then yes you can.
2. The windows XP installer will ask you to format your drive, deleting Vista automatically.
3. With your Vista disc, all you would have to do is put it in and click "Upgrade".
