How to fix my Processor in BIOS if it is UNDERCLOCKED? its really showing 2.8ghz instead of 3.4gz. in CPUZ?
OS : Windows XP Professional SP2
Processor: Pentium 4 ht-3.4ghz.(650 Prescott)
Cooler : Coolmaster V8
RAM : Kingston DDR2-3gb(Dual 1gb each)
Graphics : XFX Nvidia Geforce 9800 gtx Black edition 512mb. driver ver.180.48
M.Board : Intel D945PSN
That's normal.
Prescott CPUs have a feature called 'SpeedStep' which will decrease their CPU multiplier (which decreases the clock rate while keeping the FSB speed the same) when they aren't busy. This keeps the CPU cooler and helps ensures that it won't overheat (which will cause it to thermally throttle) when it gets busy.
Use a load-generating program like Orthos or Prime95 and watch the speed jump back up to 3.4GHsz.
