When you are on a Mac, there are times when you can't open certain types of files. At times Windows files have problems opening on a Mac because it's a very different operating system. Sometimes WMA files are hard to play on your Mac. Find out how to get these open so you can play them the way you are used to.
The first option is to install Windows Media Player for Mac. This is the Mac version of the software that should be able to open the WMA files that you are needing to be opened. The problem is that on updated systems there are some major problems installing this software for some reason making it a difficult solution for these files.
There is an plugin called Flip4Mac that you can use. It's designed so that you can play WMA files in Quicktime. This will play the files but won't let you convert or encode them in any way at all.
There is an open source solution to the problem. There is an application called VLC that you can use that will open up various types of media. This is a great solution because if you have other types of audio or video that you can't open, VLC should be able to open all of these making it a great solution for anything.
Why is nothing working at all on my system even using one of the three solutions?
Some WMA files are protected by DRM meaning that they are locked down. They need a real and official version of Windows Media Player to unlock them as they are being protected against privacy. At times there are things like school lectures that have been known to not work well on a Mac because of these types of restrictions. There really isn't any way around this problem.
