Dell monitor and DVI?
I have a Dell Ultra Sharp LCD monitor that I got from work. I am hooking it up on my home PC for the first time. I currently have both the analog and the DVI hooked up because I couldn't get a picture when just the DVI was in (even after hitting the "input select" button, nothing happened). So now that I have both plugged in, my analog mode works fine but when I click the input select button to go to the digital mode, I just see my desktop picture, no icons or anything. Am I doing something wrong or can you not use DVI mode all the time?
Is it possible that when you first connected the monitor you connected the DVI cable after the system had started to boot? That could explain why you got a blank screen as the system will probably default to the VGA connector if is sees no monitor at boot.
With both connections in place the computer is seeing this as two different monitors, so you are getting an extended desktop. The analog input is probably the left side and the DVI the right.
I would recommend that you connect only the DVI side as this should give a slightly better image, and then reboot the computer.
If you do not get an image then connect via the analog side only.
