How to restore data from old hard drive?
I had to replace my hard drive due to a problem with the ability to boot my OS (Vista Ultimate). Is there any way that I can transfer the information from my old HD, (all of the files are intact as far as I know, I checked with MediaDirect and they all work fine, it just didn't boot properly) to my new hard drive in the computer?
It's a Dell XPS m1530 laptop, had a samsung 160gb 5400 rpm HD, and upgraded to a 320gb 7200 rpm HD.
So can I easily transfer the files and programs from the old HD to the new one from Geek Squa or something like that?

Would a USB to SATA HD dock work?
Your proposed solution would work. There should not be any problems w/ your personal files (docs, music, videos, etc.). However, simply COPYING the installed programs on the old drive is not the same as installing them. They won't work.
