Reading my daily mail this morning I found the next question:

"Morning, I have a question for you, I want to install another operating system in my PC. Mine has already install Windows Vista, but I want Windows XP because some software doesn't work on Vista. I don't know if installing another system, or formatting and install XP only. What do you recommend?

So, I know many people have this same question, here I will explain to you my recommendation.

Installing two OS in one pc depends on the PC we have in hand at the moment, I mean, the system specs have to be enough to allow two operating systems on it (RAM memory, processor, Hard Drive space).

I personally suggest that in this case, is better to install Windows XP and in case of wanting to use another operating system, we can virtualize it with VirtualBox or another virtualizing software. Also remember that Microsoft operating systems doesn't allow making downgrades, installing an old OS on a new one (XP on Vista), instead the updates is quite easy.

Anyway, if you want to install both operating systems, I recommend to you:

  • Make a Hard Drive partition: the new partition has to have at least 20 Gb of free space, you can use a free software called EASEUS Partition Master
  • Then boot your PC from the Windows XP installation CD
  • Install Windows XP in the new partition you just created

This is one of the many ways to do this. Of course, there are other methods, some hard, some easy, some long and others quick. I hope that with this I helped some of you reader
