i want to take a ati x1630 pro 512m pcie graphics card from my tower and put it in my compact computer.?
my buddy gave me a graphics card and i was wondering if it would work if i installed it on my compact computer. i know it fits but my question is the programing. my current card is ati radeon x1300 pro 256mb and the card i want to put in is a ati x1650 512mb pro pcie. i'm taking the x1650 from a tower so it is bigger so it won't fit my compact without leaving the cover off but it fits.
i'm using dell computers. my computer is daul core 2.6ghz 6700, dell dimesion dxco61, 4 gb ram..compact style tower in which i think its worth the $2000 i spent on it in early 2007.
i'm just wondering if the current programming will, i guess be aware or detect the card diffrence on start up. and will it even work when i start it up? or do i need to get a program to run it?

try just sticking it in there. fire up the compy and it will probably work (even more so considering you're currently using an ATI card!) most likely, your screen rez will be crap, and there will be a lot of lag, but go into ATI's website, then the downloads section and download the appropriate DRIVER for the card. Install that, reboot, and your new card should work dandily!
