Windows 7 Question: How do you edit the desktop's "New" list?
When you right click anywhere on the Windows 7 desktop, you get a menu. One of the items on that menu says "New." If you hover over it, you get a second menu which enables you to create a new folder, new shortcut and a number of other new items on your desktop. How do you edit that list?
On other computers, I can create a new (empty/blank/dimensionless) bitmap image on the desktop. Being able to do that is very useful to me in my work. But on my Windows 7 laptop, the new bitmap image option does not appear. Instead, a "Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 Image" option appears twice. Is it possible to edit that list to remove the duplicate listing and restore the desired "new bitmap" option? Thanks!!!
open run window and type regedit;
in regedit expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Then for every item you intend to remove, for example, to remove New Bitmap Image, look for HKEY_CLASSES>.bmp and expand .bmp, then look for ShellNew and delete this key. Now right-click on desktop and you'll still see Bitmap Image, so again right-click on desktop New> and now the item is removed.
Becareful to ONLY DELETE ShellNew and nothing else.
