will disk wiping also erase my computers built in ability to restore itself to factory settings?
My dell has the feature built in to restore it to day one. I do not have a disc since its an old computer. i assume this will wipe everything?
If you mean use the system restore utility that is partitioned into your unit, it will not erase itself from your unit. If you are doing a complete C drive format, it will erase everything, including the system restore partition.
Using the system restore utility will set the computer back to its original factory state. The operating system will remain, anything else you installed after you purchased it will be gone.
