Is a 1.4ghz Pentium M Centrino really equivalent to a 2.5ghz Pentium 4?
I'm about to purchase a Laptop Dell Latitude D600 Pentium M Centrino 1.4ghz on Ebay for $279. It's refurbished but with 2 year warranty. The seller claims that this processor is equivalent to a 2.5ghz Pentium 4. Is that true? I've read that this is possible with Core Duo processors but I was wondering if that applies also to Pentiums M.
Also do you think this is a good purchase or do you recommend any other laptop. My desktop is an old Dell Optiplex 1.1ghz which so far has served me well for most of my computing needs. I basically intend to use the laptop for the same purposes I use my desktop and only need it to be a slight improvement over my current desktop.
In term of which benchmark the guy's referring to? 1.4Ghz centrino is fairly good, not great. It's good for normal use.
