It has an intel processor which means you can upgrade the system software to Snow Leopard if you want to and it has a decent size hard drive and memory so as far as iMacs it's a good place to start if you're after a mac computer.
True, the desktops have far more upgrading options to them, but that comes at a price too. I guess it really depends what you're looking for longterm, and that's a personal thing entirely.
If you buy it just check on the system discs with it (should be 2 but it says Restore discs none) so that if you have any problems you can run the diagnostic software to verify and repair problems or reinstall the OS if need be.
