Recovery Boot Vista

HP 550 recovery Vista Business help.?
This question is quite advanced so i will try to make it simple as i can. I have a laptop HP 550 vista business installed when bought. I got an XP recovery CD with drivers but not a Vista CD. The lap top only has 1 hard drive. Section C is HP recovery and Section D is local drive . Section C HP recovery has used 8gig out of 9gig. I guess this is where Vista is hidden? Anyway about a year ago i had a big problem with compatibility issues and i had to put XP on it from the CD it came with. Now i want to put Vista back on as i guess there have been developments with compatibility issues. As i put XP on i do not have the option to press F11 at boot. Just the standard XP help prompts. I have no Vista CD but can see it on my partitioned hard drive in section C.
My question is how do i get this to boot. It must be on there? Is this partition for booting Vista back up. Help please. Thanks,
.
When you bought your laptop, there were somewhere along the Start Menu an option to create the recovery disc, which I assume you never worried about...until now!
If created, this recovery disc would be a Windows Vista installation disc, customised with the software you had installed at the buying point. To create this disc, Windows would have a little program installed that read this C partition and dumped it onto a set of 2 DVDs, with the necessary protections not to enable you doing it more than once.
So yes, there's an image of your old Vista installation on that partition.
The problem now is that you lost the software to create such a set of recovery discs. And reinstalling XP (or Vista, for all that cares), no matter how many times you do it, you'll never be able to peek inside that partition, due to the enforced protections it was created with.
So my advice now is to upgrade/install Windows again; If you're happy with XP, stick with it -- but keep it updated, otherwise, I'd go to Win7, as this is a refined and improved version of Vista.
Somewhere along the process, it might be a good idea to get rid of that C partition, thus gaining a further 9 GB of disk space.
And if you're sticking with XP, it might also be a good idea to get an installation disc with service pack 3 slipstreamed (google instructions to create this, you can do it), prior to reinstalling.
Good luck.
