Is WinXP really using the virtual memory?
I use WinXP on a computer that has a 1Gb RAM. I enlarged the virtual memory up to 4Gb.
But why the system seems not using the virtual memory?
I looked at the memory meter from Task Manager. I tried to run a few programs and the graph of memory meter never rise above 1Gb. I think the system is ignoring the additional 4Gb virtual memory.
The system is not going faster at all. And I have granted full access to the SYSTEM.
Virtual memory does not make your computer faster. The reason we use RAM is because reading from the hard drive is about 1000 times slower than reading from RAM. Virtual memory lets you use part of your hard drive as pretend-RAM, so if you run out of memory, the computer won't crash. But if you do use it, your computer will slow down. A lot. So the computer tries to avoid using it unless it has to.
