How do I check my computers history files.?
It is a decked out Dell Precision 690 workstation and lately something is different so I would like to check it out. This and any other tid bits on keeping this bad boy safe would be appriciated greatly.
take out the trash
check your internet TOOLS menu and select "internet options"
now on the first tab of the new window select the smallest number of days for pages to be saved in your history. that should not be a problem if you save your favorites as you find them.
now select view files and delete all NON-cookie files.
there are probably thousands of regular files. go to EDIT menu and choose "select all" and when the window asks you if you want to delete cookies as well say NO
then go thru the cookies to find any favourite sites' cookies where your info may be stored for easy logins. selct those and when you have them all go to edit menu and select INVERT SELECTION to keep what you select and delete the rest
another good thing is to empty the recycle bin. in a similar way
open recycle bin by double clicking the destop icon then select empty bin (first option you see when has stuff in it)
