I'm thinking of buying a used Dell Precision 670. It comes with 3Gb and I want to have more. The specs says "Up to 16GB dual-channel DDR2 400MHz ECC registered memory; Six DIMM slots" also someone is selling 8Gb DDR2 667Mhz ECC Registered.
Will the memory work on the slower motherboard?
yes, but the RAM will be slowed to the maximum available bandwidth of your system; 400Mhz, also you won't likely see much of a speed difference, windows is poor at supporting above 3Gb, unless you are using it as a render farm
