Older PC is not recognsing installation of 80GB HDD. Running XP professional Pentium 3 666MHz 128MB ram.?
I've left main HDD as usual, CDD is master to newly installed 80GB HDD slave. PC does recognise CDD. I've tried swapping CDD & HDD master/slave, also HDD as single & CS. CDD is always recognised. I believe the installation is not a problem, but an realy confused. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Ren.
Several things to check:
make sure your connections are secure, and properly oriented, that the red stripe on your ribbon cable is closest to the power connection, and that the ribbon cable shows no signs of stress, wear, or obvious damage.
check the system BOIS from the manufacturer's web site, and download & install the latest version.
check ALL the jumpers on the devices, make sure that they are set appropriately.
Also, try running the new HD as a stand alone device, to ensure that it's not defective.
