If you buy a movie in the new HD DVD format, can you get the HD quality if you play the movie on a PC?
I have an Intel Pentium 4 with 1.99GHz processor and 1GB of RAM running Microsoft Windows XP (SP2) and usng NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 display and a brand new widescreen ViewSonic that is their new monitor that supports high quality screen resolution for gamers, which I am one. I know that you have to buy the new HD DVD player to get the HD quality of the new DVDs on your TV but how about playing them on a PC? Can you get the HD quality with a PC without having to buy the new $499 HD DVD player?
Actually it's the pc's dvd drive that has to be able to read the HD-DVD. Soon there will be HD-DVD drives available to attach to pc's; when you get one of those you will be able to watch HD-DVD movies on your pc. You have to be careful; I believe some HD-DVD movies will also contain the SD version on the same disc. If you put that in your current DVD reader, you will see the movie, but it will not be HD.
