Many of you out there think ram is stupid right? Well if your using your computer and your saying that, your wrong. RAM is a short-term memory hard disk which keeps your applications running. If you have no RAM the chances are you computer will run through the BIOS and then will crash or you will get a black screen. RAM does more than you think.
RAM actually keeps history of all of the applications you have open on your computer. Once you turn off your computer these disks are wiped. (You can't store data on them [Even if you could, your data would get deleted]).
For every application you open on your computer the more RAM your computer requires. You might have noticed that if you have 20 programs open your computer will run really slow and if you have 1 or 2 open it will have brilliant performance. Some of this occurs because of Ram(Random Access Memory). When you open alot of programs your computer asks for more RAM, and if there is not enough free RAM available it will compress your data. It is slow when you have alot of applications open because your over-using your computers RAM ability and it has to compress and decompress your application data every time you attempt you use it.
You might also see applications on the web going on about this will increase your RAMs efficiency, but they just close applications which run in the background and there a big waste of money. If you want to close applications which are running in the background you can just press CTRL + ALT + DELETE -> Processes Tab then you click on a task and then hit 'End Task'. Doing that will free up more ram.
But RAM doesn't always effect your computers speed it can also be your Computer Processing Unit (CPU), this part of your computer has different sizes which varies from 0GHz - 3.06GHz+(GigaHertz). For every 1 GHz its 1000 lines per second. For every MHz its 1 Lines per second.
If you have a computer which is running on Windows XP with little RAM such as 256MB I suggest you upgrade. RAM is easy to install all you have to do is open your hard drive then you will see a object which is similar to your RAM stick which will be in your hand if your planning on installing one. Then there will be a free slot next to the RAM stick which is already in your computer. Simply carefully place it in that slot and put your computer hard drive back together. Once that is done you can check if you done it correctly by Right Clicking on My Computer and pressing Properties. If your RAM is higher than originally then it means you have done it correctly. Otherwise Try again.
If you are interested in buying more RAM because you have little. Look inside your computer hard drive find out what type of RAM your computer uses then purchase that copy. If your looking into buying RAM I suggest using your local Auction website. You don't want to be spending 100's of dollars on Brand New Ram which is just as good as Second-hand ram.
