My brother has a DV9000 series laptop. I don't know if it is the same on yours also. But in HP's infinite wisdom, they didn't include any webcam software that is free that you can adjust the settings with. You can use Muvee Producer or Quickplay to see how it works. Frankly, I am very disappointed with HP for such thoughtlessness. Usually they are very good with their software for their devices.
