Attention nerds: How much of a performance increase would I get going from a Celeron 2.8GHz to a P4 3.8GHz?
My current setup:
Intel Celeron 336, 2.8GHz, 90nm, L1: 16KBs, L2: 256KBs, Threads: 1
with 1GB DDR400 RAM,
and a Radeon X1650 Pro 512mb DDR2.
A new processor:
Intel Pentium 4 672, 90nm, L1: 16KBs, L2 2MBs, Threads: 2.
How much of an increase would I get for gaming/general use wise?
Please don't tell me to add another gig of RAM, that's next on the list.
I have already checked for compatibility with my motherboard.

I will not be going to multi-core as my motherboard does not support it, and most motherboards that do, only support DDR2 RAM and PCI Express.

Actually, it would be a pretty significant increase. Celeron processors are cheap for a reason. They rip out all the stuff that makes them faster to make them cheaper. You'd actually notice a difference going from the Celeron 2.8 to a P4 2.8.
And for the record, it's geek not nerd.
