WinXP and Drive Not Ready error message?
My system is an older HP Vectra with a P4 1.7GHZ processor. The system does not support SATA so i had to purchase a SATA PCI Controller (SY-VIA-150, chipset: Via VT6421A). The newly purchased SATA HDD is a Seagate Baracuda 7200.11 (ST3640323AS) 640GB HDD. I also have 2 PATA HDDs installed (40GB and 80GB). The PATA drives (one of them at least) is acting funky and so considered the new SATA upgrade though i cant boot from the SATA and so have all drives installed at the moment.
After installing the SATA drive each time i boot into Windows XP Pro I get the error message "Drive Not Ready". I have no idea which of my installed drives it is referring to or what its even talking about. Within WinXP all drives including the newly formatted SATA are available and working fine.
Any ideas why the error message and what drive it is referring to?
I am afraid there is only one solution to your problem my friend.
remove/unplug all of your disks except the one used by XP to boot.
Keep your PCI/SATA adapter connected but try a different slot.
Check your MB manual in order to find the one with the least IRQ overhead.
Start adding your drives one by one. Reboot each time.
Make sure you have the chipset drivers installed too.
Log in your BIOS and set in the Hard Disks menu, the 32bit data transfers to Enabled.
Also in PCI Plug & Play set the value to 32 (or 64 if your SATA card requires so).
