Overclocked 2.4Ghz to 3.0Ghz (P4)... Difference?
Ok so I lately googled a way to overclock my CPU, and I managed to overclock my Pentium 4 (2.4Ghz) to 3.0Ghz. Since I'm still a Rookie at this, I'm thinking, "Hey, more numbers, meaninng faster processing right?".
But As I am doing some things, like simply going on a web or opening some apps, I can't see much difference. Plus, when I inserted a DVD, my OS (xp SP2) froze.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there more things to do Than just changing the number of FSB? Or simply, you really can't tell any difference?

It sounds like your PC is becoming unstable due to either heat, or insufficient voltage for the running speed. Other causes could be that your motherboards PCI and also memory clock is set to track the FSB speed, so in overlcocking your FSB to make the CPU faster, you inadvertantly made the memory and PCI bus (And thus all devices running on the PCI bus, including IDE devices like DVD drives and hard disks) run faster than they would run at stock. I'd suggest you try and find a way to lock the PCI bus if you can, and also run a divider on your memory to slow the memory back down to stock speeds.
Also, if you want a way of seeing how much faster your PC gets, run a benchmark like SuperPi, and see how long it takes to do the 1M calculation at stock speeds, and then overclocked speeds and compare the 2 times.
