if i get the e6400. will i have to upgrade my cpu heatsink and fan. it was on top of a celeron 3.06ghz before my p4 upgrade
I doubt you can run an E6400. Contrary to what someone said most boards that can run Core 2 Duos can also run P4s so just because you have a 3.0 Ghz P4 that has no bearing on your ability to run a Core 2 Duo because 3GHz P4s come in both 478pin and LGA775. Its the rest of the hardware you listed that indicates what type of board you have and its the board that determines what cpu you can run. Should have told us what board you have. If you an AGP video card and IDE hard drives you probably have a 478pin board. E6400 is 775.Wouldn't replace a 3GHz P4 with a 3.2 P4 either cuz you're not gonna see any noticeable performance bump.
The 3GHz P4 you have is fine for your system. If you want to go with a a Core 2 Duo you'll have to replace about everything but the case, PSU and rom drives. Even then I wouldn't go with a puny E6400. Doesn't meet the minimum specs for Crysis running Vista(2.2)
