I have a Dell a (Optiplex Gx60 Intel) desktop computer runs on Xp. It is extremely slow, not just for web browsing but slow altogher. It has a Celeron processor cpu 2.20Ghz 2.19Ghz, with 256 of Ram. It’s really frustrating to use and to run programs, I need to know what my options are?
2.20 Ghz is not very slow. If you go to best buy many of the computes there are in the 2 Ghz range. Windows PCs tend to slow down the longer you use them. It is often recommend that you reinstall the Operating System ever few years. That is an option, reinstall windows XP.
However, XP is very old now and Microsoft will soon stop support it. You could buy Windows 7, it isn't that bad, although it can be pricey. Try running the windows 7 upgrade adviser on your PC to see if it will run windows 7.
This all might be due to a virus or something. Do you install all of your Windows updates? That can usually really help - and it's free. Also Microsoft gives away free anti-virus and it works really well and takes up hardly any memory at all. It is called Microsoft Security Essentials.
