Installing DVD/CDRW drive to computer...?
How do i fix a DVD/CDRW drive to my Dell OptiPlex GX240 desktop? There about five "serial" (i dunno the term) cables labelled (P3, P6, P12, P18,... and so on) and two Harddrive to DVD Drive "serial ports" (one black and one white (that is the long one)). How do i correctly connect these cos i've been trying but it has not shown on "My Computer" at all meaning Windows is not detecting it.
I've connected another DVDROM to it (using the white one for the long and P3 for the other one, and of course the power cable) and it worked, but this one is not working. Please don't tell me it is faulty cos i've been using it before and it had been functioning fine until recently, when the Windows just stopped detecting it.
Im running WinXP service pack 3, 2GB ram, 512MB VGA, 50GB harddisk (if these are of any importance)... Thanks, and please i need ur urgent help cos am a complete novice when it comes to hardware. Thanks.
All you need do is plug the power connector in and the sata or pata connector in. Your bios should see the drive. If it doesnt, you have other problems.
