There are a large number of Windows Vista myths circulating in the news, online, various types of media, and possibly even around your community. Since this version of Windows was launched and consumers experimented with it for the first time, there was been quite a bit of misinformation, and assumptions that simply have no basis at all. Here, I will divulge some of the myths that have been surrounding Windows Vista so that you may have a clear picture of fact and fiction.
1. One of the first Windows Vista myths is that it actually has about as much security as Windows XP that has Service Pack 2 installed on it. While I do not want to undermine the overall, security features of Windows XP, as there are some very decent security measures in place for this operating system. Windows Vistas security is completely restructured and offers numerous advantages in the area of security that XP simply does not have in place. Examples of these enhancements include that of the "User Account Control", or "UAC", and even the ability to run and operate Internet Explorer 7 on a secure basis. The Windows Firewall is also more enhanced in Vista therefore keeping it more secure.
2. The next Windows Vista myth that seems to be circulating rather rapidly is that it does not allow a user to use peripherals that were used with other Windows operating systems. In addition to this, it is said that many old applications will fail to work with Vista. Logically, we have to consider the fact that Microsoft would really be cutting themselves short if they created a Windows program that would not work with other popular programs - why would they make Vista this difficult? Windows Vista works very well with all of my old peripherals and all of the basic applications that I use on a regular basis.
3. Many individuals have refused to upgrade to Vista because of the myth surrounding the computers that have to be in place to run this type of system. There is no reason to go out and buy some high-powered computer just to run Windows Vista! This is absurd! I will tell you right now, some hardware companies out there are getting this started so that individuals will run out and buy a brand new system. The same guys for all those peripherals that people say will not work with Windows Vista. Someone somewhere is simply looking to make a buck somewhere - that is all.
4. The next Windows Vista myth is that there is nothing really new about the system at all, it is just visibly attractive. Well, I can make Windows XP visibly attractive too! If it is all about the "Wow Factor", why bother going through all the work of development, marketing, and all that? Of course, it has new features and a higher level of functionality!
5. I know I have talked about the security enhancements and all that with Vista, but there is another myth that this version of Windows will completely eliminate any and all issues surrounding security. The truth of the matter is, there will probably NEVER be an operating system that does this. Why? Because there are new programs, hacks, and security threats being created daily, numerous time over again. While the security is enhanced, it is not 100% effective against security threats. If you happen to find a system that is, feel free to let me know. That would be an amazing discovery!
6. Now, we go to this whole "dual boot" issue. Many enjoy dual boot because they can run two operating systems at once. There is a myth, naturally, that this is not available with Windows Vista. You have to be kidding me, right? Of course, you can dual boot with Vista. It amazes me that someone would actually think that a newer and improved version of Windows would be lacking in this function.
7. Now, while we are on the topic of dual stuff, let us cover the Windows Vista myths surrounding these high powered, dual processor computers. I am not sure why someone would get the impression that this form of Windows would not work on a dual processor system, yet turn around and say that you have to have a high-end system to run Vista, but I guess that is rumors for you. The fact is, it can and it WILL work on the super sweet dual core processor machines.
8. The next myth about Windows Vista, which really frustrates me because I WISH it was true, is that it comes with Microsoft Office 2007 free. Yeah, right! Like this is going to be true. There is a free trial, but the march for money is still on. If you like Office 2007, you still have to buy it. While we are on the topic, many think Office 2003 will not work on Vista - wrong again. I am using Office 2003 to write this on Vista right now. Great news to all of you who seem to love Office 2003 like me - it works on Microsoft Vista. No need to fret over these Windows Vista Myths!
9. Now, for some reason there is a rumor circulating that you cannot rip music on the Windows Vista platform. Well, you can! That is really all there is to say about that one.
10. Now, the last Windows Vista myth that I can expound on at this point is the price. This version is apparently "gold" and is suppose to be super expensive - even more so than Windows XP. Truthfully, Vista averages around the same price with many more options altogether.
