We want users to try out Office 2010 before we release the final version. This way they can help find and report any lingering bugs left in the system and also provide valuable feedback to our developers. In essence this is what beta means.
If you already have Office 2007, you can keep it in case you are not satisfied with 2010 or are not ready to buy it when it comes out. To do this just click on Customize instead of Upgrade when you download 2010.
