Will I have to re buy windows xp if i change my motherboard? WGA?
I have an emachines with a bad mobo that came with an oem copy of windows xp. I don't have the recovery cds but I do have a copy of windows xp home oem without a serial number. I plan to use the serial number from the coa sticker on the machine. I can't afford to replace the mobo with the exact same because emachines wants about $150 USD. The cheapest I can find on ebay is about $100. I found a board that will work for $40 but its not an emachines. I figure I won't be able to activate xp online after the new install. My question is-If I call the microsoft activation number and explain about the mobo being replaced, will they re activate my license or will they tell me tell me I have to buy another copy of windows xp? thanks.
