My computer is sluggish, but how do I know if I need more memory? I have XP and 384MB of Ram. Too little?
I should add here that I just repartitioned the hard drive and reinstalled the same software as before. It is a notebook computer. It was and is sluggish when compared to a similar notebook with more memory. Also, there is no spyware or virus related problems. Thank you.
You won't notice a significant difference unless you tack on like 1-3 more GB of RAM. Perhaps you may want to find out what kind of Memory is compatible and whether you can expand it before you decide on buying the sticks.
The reason your computer is so slow may be a result of a slow processor.
Considering you're running a computer with only 384MB of RAM on XP, your processor is probably seriously outdated. This kind of base setup has been simply overshadowed by some of today's basic setups sporting 2.0GHz DualCores with 2GB of RAM starting from $500USD.
If you want to get away completely from the sluggish experience, you might want to invest in a newer laptop rather than newer RAM.
