What is an IBM PC and what is it used for?
I have a job offer but they want to know if I have experience working on an IBM PC. I think I know it's an old computer but why would a company be using it now? What is it used for and what does it do? Thank you!
An IBM PC is an old way of stating "Intel compliant". It used to be the 8088, 8188, 286, 386 and 486 processors and their respective processor families. Unless you're in your 40s now, I doubt you'll have experience working on that old platform.
It is possible that they think they're referring to using common productivity software like the Office package, various offerings from Lotus, and so on. It would be an odd legacy system to use indeed, though some telecom companies still use legacy code running on either old metal or virtual machines to control some specific telephone exchanges and so on.
