Which is better: a dual core x2 amd laptop or a core duo?
The dual core x2 mobile laptop (HP) was just released in my local Office Depot for 800 with dvd writer while the core duo laptop (lenova- IBM) is only 700 with dvd writer. Is the dual core x2 5000+ laptop really that much better than a core duo. Everything else on both laptops are about the same.
The core duo is the lowest 1.66ghz. I dont know what the speed of the X2 is but the number is Turion 64 X2 mobile TL-50
Way to go, those are great deals that you have found! Recap, X2 TL-50 runs at 1.6Ghz yet it supports simutaneous 32 and 64 bit applications. This chip uses less power and is future proof (If you try Windows Vista, you will know why) The cons are 64 bit chips run a little bit hotter and since it's using more resources (CPU, RAM and HDD) it draws more power as well. Intel Core Duo is a great muti-tasker, uses little power, and 4Mb of cache (shared) will go a long way. Con is it's expensive, very expensive for the newer models. Vista is designed graphic intensive, so an AMD 64 bit running on a laptop doesn't make any sense since your HDD won't be able to keep up anyway. Go with portablity and stick to Intel and XP Pro.
