Running HP MIE Ubuntu, have XP and Virtualbox questions.?
I have an HP 1000 MIE edition ubuntu netbook. I would like to be able to run a few windows programs like Rosetta Stone. I have tried Wine but it does not work. Can I dual boot with XP (I've read that MIE Ubuntu OS wipes the hd)? If not, can I install XP via virtualbox? Will I need to install an antivirus for XP? Can I run the XP OS from external harddrive/USB or does it have to be on the internal hd?

Windows generally does not like to be on an external, though I have done it. You'll just need to play around with the boot loader a bit to tell it what you want.
There's a chance that XP won't even see your hard drive and you'll have to slip stream SATA drivers into the bootable CD.
Honestly, i would just go with Virtualbox or VMWare (it's better and easier) to install XP. You'll have to assign disk space, RAM, etc. and XP won't see anything past what you assign it. Yes, you'll need an antivirus.
