how do you change the video card in an HP Pavillion AMD athlon XP 2400 desktop?
1. You will want to have purchased a AGP video card.
2. Turn off the system. Unplug the power from the tower. It is sometimes easier to unplug everything so that you can move the tower to a table to be able to work on it easier.
3. When you unplug the monitor from the video card, make a mental note of which card it was.
4. Remove the side of the case (for specifics see link below).
5. Locate card and remove screw holding it in place.
6. On most AGP slots there will be a latch on the inside edge of the card (attached to the motherboard). Press down until the card pops up. Remove card and replace with new card.
7. Press card into slot until the "latch" pops up into upright position. Screw in card.
8. Before replacing the side of the case. Plug in the monitor, keyboard, mouse and power cords and turn on the tower. Make sure the system boots.
Then you can shut it down and replace case cover, and plug everything back in.
