Dual-boot with pre-installed Vista 64 and XP professional...please help!!?
Ok, so I tried to install XP professional on a partition drive that I created on my pre-installed Vista 64 laptop. The installation worked fine, but XP is now the defalt OS. I tried booting the laptop using Vista, but I don't have any such option when the computer is booted. Apparently, while running on XP, my computer was not detecting Vista as an OS...Vista fails to show up as an OS on the BOOT.INI file as well. I checked and made sure that Vista is still installed on the computer (IT IS)...but I'm still unable to boot using Vista. Besides, none of my integrated hardware is working now (not even the speakers)...HP doesn't have drivers for my laptop on XP (I know I should've checked before)...any ideas on what went wrong and what I can do?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.
When you wish to dual-boot two versions of Windows, you must install the older one first (XP), followed by the newer one. However, since you've already done that, you can't do anything about it now.
Boot from your Vista DVD and tell it to repair the current installation. This will put the Vista bootloader back and allow you to boot back into Vista.
Then, install EasyBCD, a program to help you manage dual-booting better.
