150gb hard driver, 90gb left.
Pentium(R) 4CPU 3.20GHz
3.19Ghz, 1.99 GB of RAM
i have directx 9.0
I currently have a REALLY BAD graphics card so this is my main concern. I have to have a "PCI express" one to fit my optiplex gx620...
The card i'm hoping to get within the next couple of days is " Geforce 8500GT 256mb x16 PCI express graphics card"
To what extent will my computer play good games?
Do i have to install Vista?
SHOULD i get 512mb or 256mb, the jump (price wise) is more than what i'm hoping to spend so only if it is necesary.

a 8500GT 256MB is rubbish, get at least a 8600GT/9600GT (both same) 512MB, you can get them for about £40-£50.
Ram, you should have about 2GB Ram on XP at least. If you are getting Vista, get the 64 bit version and get 4GB ram.
Processor a pentium 4, well its a little dated, but most games have minimum requirements set as a pentium 4 @ 3GHz, so you may get away playing modern games on low settings.
with your current set up with a 8600/9600GT and 4GB ram you should be able to play modern games on low, if not medium and in some cases high settings
