Can the Optiplex GX520 handle a Pentium D 935?
I was going to upgrade my computer from a 2.56GHz Celeron D to a Pentium D 935 Dual Core 3.2GHz 800MHz & didn't know if it could handle it. The computer is a Dell Optiplex GX520 w/ the newest BIOS.
Also, can it handle 4GB of RAM? & I am aware that I would need a 64bit OS to use it all.
first of all... you would need a 64 bit motherboard to handle the 64x2 bit processor.. so check it out with the manual... or go to the manufacturers website and ask their geeks....
As for 64 bit operating systems and software then you would need to move over to Linux, Linux is free to download and use on any computer, plus you get all the software you will ever need also Free... so check out what Linux can do for you,, even on the system you have now... Linux will work wonders on it.... there are several versions of Linux from top companies such as Novell, Sun Micros, IBM. Red Hat
By the way, Dell, Hp, Compaq, Gateway also install Linux on their systems but don't advertise this fact... because the wholesalers don't make as much money on selling systems with Linux installed on them... so check out the websites below for any version of Linux ...
downloading a Linux cd's needs 670 to 690 meg of disk space and a DVD would need 3 to 4 gigs of disk space and plenty of time to download,,, or you can buy Linux dvd's @ $1.99 or cd's @ $0.99 each.
