can i upgrade my processor?

optiplex gx280
2.5g Ram
300w Psu
Nvidia geforce 8400gs
2.8 Ghz P4 prescott 520 processor
WOuld it be possible for me to upgrade to an Intel Celeron 2.0Ghz dualcore E1400 processor?? .. or possibly an Intel Celeron 1.6 Ghz dual core E1200 processor?
The only reason id be acquiring this new processor, is for gaming purposes. minimum requirements for games nowadays only accept dual core.. which i dont have,.. any suggestions?
Your GX280 uses a motherboard containing the Intel 915G chipset (outdated). It does not support dual cores or the newer technology processors. Your PC may be able to support only up to P4 551 3.4gHz (the stepping model that has same wattage as your P4 520).
Take note that the P4 5xx models support HT or Hyper Threading (simulating a dual core). And also take note that a lot of games are more dependent on the graphics card.
With HT enabled and paired with a decent graphics card (not budget cards), your P4 520 can still play many games up to medium settings and modest resolution.
