Home Network Help!?
I have a Dell Optiplex Gx270 and I just reformatted the hard drive and ran Windows XP Pro. on it. I also own a D-Link WBR-1310 and I ran the installation cd on it. I have a old Toshiba sattelite that hardwired to the router and I'm trying to get both computers to see each other. I've tried running the Home and Network Setup with no success. I also have a PS3 thats connected to the network but it can't see the dell. Any thoughts?
Go to your control panel and click on system, click on the tab computer name, click the button that says change. You have 2 options domain or work group. pick work group. Do this on both computers and pick the same work group name for both computers. Reboot both. Now when you go start, connect to, show all connections, under other place choose my network places. at this point you should see a shared documents folder from ther other computer. Now all you have to do to share files and folder is right click on the folder/file and click on sharing and security, next choose the option share on a network. Hope that helps.
