Game 1click Install
Playing your favourite games smoothly on Windows 7 is not as simple as playing on Windows XP. The new improvements, security patches, redesigned appearance; usage of more resources has made Windows 7 complicated. If your computer is not properly configured to play the games smoothly on Windows 7 then there are increased chances of game freezes, lags and reduced performance and
graphics quality.
This article goes through the tweaks that help you experience a smooth and continuous gaming. By performing these steps, you may reduce the ratio of game freezing to a great extent.
Solution:
1. Adjust Windows for Best Performance rather than Best Appearance
2. Turn Off User Account Control
3. Install Latest Patches for the Game
4. Defrag the Drives
5. Defrag the Windows Registry
6. Increase Virtual Memory
Adjust Windows for Best Performance rather than Best Appearance
Adjusting Windows for best performance rather than best appearance will customize the Windows by doing the changes that will ultimately help in increased performance.
You have to do a little change in computer settings:
Here's how:
1. Right click My Computer.
2. Select Properties.
3. Click Advanced System Settings link at the left hand side.
4. In the new dialog, click the Advanced tab.
5. Click Settings button under Performance frame.
6. Click Visual Effects tab.
7. Select the option Adjust for Best Performance.
8. Click OK | OK | Close.
Turn Off User Account Control
Only For Windows Vista/ 7 Users:
User Account Control (UAC) is a security based technology introduced for limiting application software to standard user privileges until an administrator authorizes an increase or elevation. In this way, only applications trusted by the user may receive administrative privileges, and malware should be kept from compromising the operating system.
While playing games, try disabling this technology. Here are the steps to do so:
1. Click Start button on the Taskbar.
2. Type UAC in the Search Box.
3. Locate Change User Account Control Settings from the Search Results.
4. Move the sidebar to Never Notify.
5. Click OK button.
Install Latest Patches for the Game
The games you are playing should be up to date. The manufacturing companies of the games release new patches as soon as a bug is found, or they succeed in improving the performance.
Where to download these patches?
Just visit the website of the manufacturing company of the game. Search for the latest patches, if introduced, and download these patches as soon as found.
Defrag the Windows Registry
Windows Registry is the database containing sensitive information, personal settings, operating system and application software information, which decides how your computer works.
Registry hive fragmentation leads to excessive size. The fragmentation in the system registry leads to poor performance in not only gaming; but also in regular operations of your computer. So, defragging the system registry will improve the system performance to a great extent.
Defrag the Drives
The regular operations, like creating new files, copying files, even deleting the files leads to fragmentation in the drives on your computer. This results in slower gaming and computer performance.
A game may use various resource files, which are stored on your system drive (generally C drive). But, due to fragmentation of the required files, the operation of accessing them becomes slow, and thus, your game runs slow.
Defragging the system drives is easy. Here are the steps to do so:
1. Click Start button on the Taskbar.
2. Click All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmenter.
3. Using Shift or Ctrl buttons, select multiple drives you wish to defrag. I will recommend selecting all the drives to defrag.
4. Click Defragment disks button to start the process.
Note: This process might take an hour or long time depending on the size of fragmentation in your drives. Defragging the disks regularly will not take such long time.
Increase Virtual Memory
Virtual Memory is the space set aside for use when Windows run out of physical memory. Most of the times, when a user is playing a game requiring RAM memory more than what he has, the game either runs very slow, or otherwise, does not load.
By increasing the virtual memory, you allow your operating system to use the space on your hard disk in case your computer requires more physical memory in gaming. Rather than performing the operations very slow, it will use the virtual memory and help making your gaming experience smoother.
By increasing the virtual memory, you allow your operating system to use more memory of your hard disk, in case the game requires more memory than what your RAM has. For instance, if your RAM is of total 2 GB, and the system requires additional 256 of memory to load a game, then it will use this extra 256 MB from the virtual memory rather than displaying an error.
Here are the steps to increase your virtual memory:
1. Right click My Computer.
2. Choose Properties.
3. Click Advanced System Settings link at the left hand side.
4. Click Advanced tab.
5. Click Settings button under the Performance tab.
6. Click Advanced tab again.
7. Click Change under Virtual Memory frame.
8. Select the drive (generally, drive C) where the game is installed.
9. Select Custom Size option.
10. Increase the Initial Size and Maximum Size in MB.
11. Click Set button.
12. Click OK | OK | OK.
13. Restart the system, if prompted.
The above guidelines allow you to take measures to speed up games in Windows 7.
