Fix Windows Recovery
It will surely come sooner or later. And it usually happens at a point where you least expected it and you are in a middle of a very important task, or perhaps you are about to play your favorite game. Then the computer suddenly snaps, and the Windows XP crashed. For the beginner and a newbie in computers, the person will push the panic button. Of course those are expected, but remember that doing that will not solve anything. The moment you encounter that message that says 'Windows cannot start because... .', then it is imperative that you think logically and start looking at causes and things that can be done.
Computer and window crashes come in different types. For window crashes, these can be related to boot or start-up problems. What is known as the boot problem will refer to the hard drive partition, and the start-up problems of your pc should be linked to files or the software installed on the computer. Say you are typing your latest report for your school, then the computer crashes. There will be a boot or start-up error if the computer cannot load the windows and you will be prompted with an error message. You will see something on the screen as well either as a black screen or that ever-classic blue screen.
When that happens, be logical and make sure that you don't format the hard drive. Others with some computer knowledge will attempt to repair the problem via a 3rd party utility or perhaps thru the use of the Windows Repair Console. This move is tricky and when performed the wrong way can be during more problems than solutions. This step may result in some documents that are installed in the folder. Just to be sure, try assessing the situation to know the root problem and to see what things can be done. Once the Windows XP crashed and the windows fail to boot and error points to a missing file, then what you can do is to run the Recovery console and run check disk. Use a 3rd party hard drive diagnostic and repair utility.
A third party recovery product that you can use may be from Symantec or Norton or any known provider. If the error message says that it can't locate the 'ntldr' then use Windows XP boot CD to boot into the command prompt. Other CDs that may prove helpful include the Windows PE CD; download a PE CD builder in the internet. Then there's the Hiren's Boot CD, a 3rd party CD that was created for hardware repair and file management. If the windows do boot but cannot load windows, then attempt a safe mode boot. If the 'Safe' mode fails and just repeat the process and select the 'Last Known Configuration'.
If that doesn't work as well, then try VGA mode. Again if that doesn't work, then try the Windows XP Recovery Console. This recovery console is located on the XP recovery CD. If you lost that one, then you may need to contact the manufacturer of the computer and request for one. Accessing the Windows XP recovery console requires the user to boot the computer from the CD and he has to follow the prompts to 'Repair your Windows XP installation using the recovery console'.
