How do I get my computer to start up faster?
It takes like 10minutes to start up. When it turns on, it automaticaly starts up my yahoo IM, MSN IM, and my Panda antivirus. I am thinking it might be the antivirus that slows down the start up, is their any antvirus with ultra fast start up or something, or am I able to download a patch that speeds up the start up of the computer?
U need to isolate the cause of the slowness. Could be caused by loading so many applications on startup. To disable;
1. Click on start menu - Run - Type Msconfig
2. Select the startup Tab - Uncheck most applications. Check only applications that are absolutely necessary on startup. Tip: You might want to leave the antivirus, this will keep your virus protection enabled.
Alternatively, the system might be slow cos your hard disk has a virus, or has bad sectors, or the system has insufficient memory. You can perform the following;
1. Run an antivirus scan on all your computer (Be sure to do this in safe mode, cos its more effective)
2. Defragment your hard disk in order to order it. To do this My computer - Right click on the hard disk n select properties - Click on the tools tab and select the defragment now button. You can also clik on check disc so that it checks the disc for bad sectors.
3. Perform disk cleanup. Control Panel - Add Remove Programs - From the list select applications you no longer use and then click on remove. Also for disk cleanup Start - Programs - Accessories - System tools - Disk cleanup.
Finally you can check the settings on the panda antivirus and determine the services you'd like to run on startup, you might want to disable it from scanning your system on startup.
