Do desktop computers have batteries that need replacing?
Mine will run fine then turn off The more you use it the faster it shuts down. When I run a disk scan it finds nothing wrong. Is there anyway I can figure out the problem without taking it to a geek? It's running Windows XP Pro.
The problem you are describing sounds unrelated to any battery issue. Desktop computers usually have small batteries plugged in the motherboard to keep the internal clock on time.

Overheating is caused by many factors including dust, a broken fan inside the case, a faulty processor or heat sink, or if there is poor ventilation and cooling to the computer. Try opening the case and put a desk fan next to your computer to get some airflow. Check the CPU temps with and without the fan and keep a record of the time it takes your PC to shut itself off. Start by using a vacuum cleaner and a duster to clean out the dust inside and see if that makes a difference. If that doesn't help then you have to service it.
