If you have a Windows Vista HP laptop, please read.?
I have a HP Pavilion dv9000. There are many buttons above the keyboard that are touch sensitive. They are for QuickPlay, and they include stop, fast forward, rewind, and volume control. The volume control button is not lit up anymore, and can no longer be used. I'm not sure if there is a setting to turn it back on, but I have no idea why it isn't working anymore. Anyone have any ideas?

ok, i've seen this before...and if the light goes out, and it doesn't work, that means the sensor is damaged....basically..UNDER the front bezzel (the cover piece above the keyboard with the pretty blue lights and QuickPlay buttons) there's a chip, or two chips, one of them is your "powerboard" and that's directly underneath your power button and controlls the power into your audio speakers (i'm assuming it has a similar design to the DV6000 series laptop) and the other chip is the "sensorboard" and this controlls the sensors under the touch-sensitive buttons and their LED light...
basically, that part of the sensor board has fused out or blown up or just been damaged, this could be caused by a huge number of things, too much pressure (although this is rare! it happens!) short circuits, surges, burning dust particles, just a crap made component, deffective, etc...
so you're gonna need a whole new sensorboard
and it'll cost you about £60 to get the part ...if you're lucky...i had to replace my powerboard which i got for £48... so try ebay, the best way to do this is to pop the bezzel off (take screws out from under battery to do this) and just lift and wedge out the panel (careful as there are two ribbons that are connected to the powerboard and the sensor board that link to the motherboard) and unscrew the sensorboard, and copy down the part number...it has to be EXACT!!! the exact serial for it....
then punch the serial in ebay and it'll pop up , if not, google it...or buy a "sold for parts" dv9000 for £80 off ebay and take the sensor board out yourself and replace yours to get it working

BY THE WAY..i just read the others' answers.....firstly, can't be driver problems, as the other buttons work...the sensor board runs on one driver....the "quickplay" one....
secondly, it can't be the motherboard or the ribbon connection as (again) the sensorboard still works!! if it was a connection problem, ALL the buttons wouldn't work...having said that, it's evident only part of the sensorboard is now faulty...
