amd athlon II vs Pentium D?
I'm ready to upgrade my computer but I'm on a strict budget of $250.
My current setup is
Pentium D 2.8 GHz
2GB RAM
I'm looking at this

I got the Motherboard figured out if I upgrade to this processor.
Would this be significantly faster or should I look for something else?
Even that low end CPU is more than twice the speed of your Pentium D.
However, I would strongly urge you to get the CPU I linked (Athlon II X3 450) instead. The price is almost exactly the same. The cores in the 450 slightly outperform the cores in the 250 you were considering, and there are three of them instead of two.
